Animal Welfare Approved

Picture
We are proud to say that we believe in the health and welfare of all of our animals, which is why we recently sought and received the approval stamp of the Animal Welfare Approved Program for our property at Cold Creek Ranch.

Animal Welfare Approved standards are the most rigorous and progressive animal care requirements in the nation, requiring the animals to be raised outdoors, on pasture or range.

Continuously ranked as the “most stringent” of all third-party certifiers by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), Animal Welfare Approved systems go beyond a simple set of rules to benefit farmers, animals and consumers alike with the simple philosophy that our own best interests are intrinsically linked to animals and to the environment we share.

The basic premise of all the standards is that animals must be able to behave naturally and be in a state of physical and psychological well-being. To accomplish the goals of the Animal Welfare Approved program, all standards address every aspect of each species’ lifecycle needs from birth to death. There are varying standards for all commonly
domesticated farmed animals but all operate under these core guidelines:

  • requires animals to be raised on pasture or range
  • prohibits dual production
  • awards approval only to family farmers
  • charges no fees to participating farmers
  • incorporates the most comprehensive standards for high welfare farming

As a family farm that is already operating under these standards, we value the accountability and acceptability that the Animal Welfare Approved certification and organization provides for us and therefore our consumers. We encourage you to find out more about them and their criteria at www.animalwelfareapproved.org.
